Tirico rules but there’s just no way he’s going to get put on hockey in any major way given his other responsibilities.

Penguins finalize roster for start of 20-21 season. Taxi squad as follows:
FORWARD: Anthony Angello, Frederick Gaudreau, Drew O’Connor; DEFENSE: Pierre-Olivier Joseph; GOALIE: Alex D’Orio, Maxime Lagace.

Who called O'Connor making the taxi squad? This guy.

I wonder what CGY would want to retain 50% on Derek Ryan.

He's definitely getting snagged by a team.

Where are the Pens on the wavier claim list, around 7th/8th?

Probably one of the best values in the league now. Especially for a team like STL.

So NBC fired Milbury and hire another Milbury. Babcock has been hired to replace him. This is too funny.

Imagine what the Pens could have done had they not signed Ceci, traded Horny for Matheson, and signed those bottom 6 plugs. Could have had a third line of
Hoffman-McCann-Horny.

Some people here don't get it. They will argue, "You can't expect everyone to want to play for the Pens! How do you know he'd sign here?" They just don't get the point.

It's terrible asset management. I mean, if the Pens didn't have a 2nd pairing LD then I'd say, OK, you think Matheson has the potential? I mean, I'd still not like the move, but I could see somehow why he decided to go after an LD at $4M per.

The fact LD was an area of surplus? I just still can't get passed it. Not to mention jumping at plugs that would probably still be available today.

Yep, and I'm glad he did make it. Can't wait to see him play some real games here, see what we have.

I agree that Milbury is obnoxious and is glad he is gone. At the same time, what he was actually fired over is ridiculous and indicates the ridiculous amount of hypersensitivity that many people have nowadays (it is a wonder how these people can even function). He has said things 10x worse in the past. I mean, anyone who thinks that women do not distract men either do not understand how mens' minds work or are in denial. And if we are going to give Milbury the benefit of the doubt and "parse out" what he likely really meant, "wives/girlfriends/families/etc.", then anyone who thinks that having the wives and girlfriends there would not pull at least some of the players' attention away from hockey is just an idiot.

Milbury's pair of comments in the 2010 Olympics are what should have gotten him fired. First, he described the Canadian team as "peeing" on the German team. Then he described the Russian team as "Eurotrash". I saw this live, as well as the uncomfortable silence and stunned looks from Roenick and the others on the broadcast.

The funny thing is that underlying the "Eurotrash" comment is probably his bitterness over his dealings with Alexei Yashin. His trade for Yahsin, subsequent $80M+ deal for him, and Yashin's failure helped to cement Milbury's legacy as the worst GM in the history of the game.

Now if only PeeAir McGuire could go. I thought he might over the "cage" comment and treating that US woman's team star as a hockey newbie might have done it but I guess it is going to take more.

Please don't allow your supposed hockey bloggers to make social issue statements and then censor hockey fans when they respond. Last thing someone who has been following hockey for 50+ years wants is to talk social opinions and judgments made by HOCKEY bloggers. But if they pass judgments at least allow verified reports to be included in the blog. Or better still keep the discussions to hockey and skip the b.s OPINIONS .

Agreed, me and my friends talked about that too. We were like "That's the comment that got him fired?" Over all of the other things he said/done it was crazy. But we are all glad he's gone, it should have happened WAY before that though.

You do realize Hornqvist has a bigger cap hit than Matheson? Plus it wasn't just about the cap hit but real money. Matheson is owed $3 million this season and Hornqvist $5.3 million. Rutherford was told to cut real money payroll to under $75 million. Getting rid of Hornqvist who is in his mid 30's with that $5.3 million cap hit and real money who was playing on the bottom 6 was a good move. Matheson has the speed, skill, and youth to actually be worth his cap hit. Matheson is starting the year on the 2nd pairing and if he does well with Marino that will be a steal of a trade for the Pens. Obviously you are taking a risk but you don't get a defenseman in his prime with Matheson's tools for a mid 30's winger who is playing in your bottom 6.

Jankowski also was a very nice signing and can be a big bargain signing for the Pens at $700,000. Jankowski looked really good with Tanev and McCann last night and of he can be our answer at 3C for $700,000 that would be one of the best signings of the year for the league. Jankowski is coming off a terrible season but he was played in a bad situation with wingers such as Lucic and others who should not be in the NHL. Jankowski had two really good season's before that situation last year with 17 and 14 goals. Definitely worth a shot at the minimum. I consider that a no risk high reward signing at that price.

Ceci at $1.25 million is a nice cheap deal for your number 6. I have no problem with that deal and think a Pettersson-Ceci pairing will be a huge upgrade over JJ-Schultz.

I also laugh that you automatically assume we would of been able to sign Hoffman over the Blues. This isn't a video game and it is a very good chance Hoffman would of signed with them anyways. Plus your line doesn't get us under the $75 million real money cap ownership ordered Rutherford to get under. In fact your 3rd line probably doesn't even get us under the real cap.
